Geopathic Stress

The Earth vibrates with an electromagnetic frequency of about 7.83 Hz which is almost identical to the range of alpha human brainwaves. The Physicist W.O. Schumann made this discovery in 1952 and this frequency has also been known as "brainwaves" or Schumann waves. Enjoying an electromagnetic frequency of approximately 7.83 Hz is a vital component in our natural environment and extreme distortions of this level can lead to what is termed as Geopathic Stress and has potential to weaken the immune system and cause degenerative disease if exposed to abnormal frequencies for too long. The space agency NASA build in imitations of this earth's electromagnetic frequency into their space shuttels, known as Schumann Resonators to safeguard the health of astronauts when they are outside of the influence of the earth and its vital frequency.

The Earth naturally creates its own Electromagnetic Field but it is when there are underground disturbances in this field that it has potentially harmful effects. Sources of abnormal Electromagnetic Energy include the presence of underground water, underground streams, caverns - man made interferences include sewers, tunnels and mains electric. The other major source can come from geological phenomena including the presence of minerals - especially coal and oil.

Electromagnetic Fields have also been mapped using 2 different grid systems. Firstly, the Hartman Net depicts grids which cover the earth along a north/south access (following parallel to the lines of longitude and latitude). The other field can be detected through what is known as the Curry Grid where the magnetic fields are spread out on north,east, south,west, south/west and north/easterly directions. In other words, these 2 grids are diagonally opposite each other. Where the 2 grids intersect, there is evidence of a very strong geopathic disturbance.

A lot of scientific research has been covered on this subject in the past 70 years and it is becoming increasingly clear that Geopathic Stress is a subject that needs to be taken seriously by the home owner. From a Feng Shui perspective, Geopathic Stress has been understood for centuries but expressed naturally in terms of Chi and meridians. Knowledge of mysterious underground energies and the ability to dowse their precise location is as integral to Chinese Feng Shui tradition as it is to other Geomantic traditions of the world. Remember that the aim of Feng Shui initially is to seek healthy Chi and to avoid the unhealthy Chi (Sha Chi). The Ming Dynasty text - "The 8 Needles of the Water Compass Method" reveals a similar perspective that modern Geopathic Stress experts believe - that unhealthy Chi rises from within the earth. Underground veins or meridians that are blocked, stagnant or unhealthy are going to be harmful to life above. These Black Streams are seen as particularly dangerous when they either converge or cross each other, even if the vertical distance between them is far. There is also a link between earth meridians being traumatised and the effect they will have on the landscape above as well. Typical causes include the building of railway or motorway cuttings and embankments, the construction of tunnels, quarrying and mining. Disturbance of these vital meridians can also be caused by building foundations - especially those with steel footings, power stations, electric sub-stations, military bases, steel pilings, telegraph poles and even road signs. On a more esoteric level, Sha Chi can be retained from human trauma and suffering within a site - executions, battles, witch burnings. On an even more subtle level, constructing a home, a hospital, an airport or a complete modern housing estate without any form of traditional foundation stone laying ceremony or without making offerings in good faith to the nature spirits whose land has been taken, is also considered to be a source of traumatised and therefore stagnant Chi.

Earth Acupuncture is a powerful remedy designed to cure Black Streams and transform the Sha Chi that they emanate into healthy Sheng Chi. Earth Acupuncture can be performed using wood, metal, stone or crystal "needles" applied to the appropriate Earth Acupuncture points for a variable time. The treatment can range from a few seconds to 2 hours. With a larger meridian or with a major geological fault, the "needle" may need to be left in place permanently.
